Rethink Jiaxing Nanhu District

Project Description

80 km away from Shanghai, the city of Jiaxing (1 million inh.) has had the most stable GDP growth of the region. The outer city and specifically Nanhu New District have however suffered from spatial dilution of their urbanization, with a lack of centrality and identity. Citilinks works on the requalification of its sprawled suburban areas with the planning of a new subcentre to create on the base of “acupunctural densification” and intensification of the public space use through placemaking and transit oriented development. The outer districts are being planned to form a network of preserved green spaces (the green hearts) forming together a digital and physical green belt dedicated to on-demand and low-carbon mobility, suburban eco-tourism and shared used farmlands associated with experimental agriculture for urban visitors. The human activity’s data of the green belt is collected on a digital platform in order to inform the visitors of their carbon footprint. By collecting energy and waste flows data, the multiple green hearts are also connected for a better decision-making on how to reuse or exchange resources in a logic of circular economy.
